    Of course, there are drawbacks to this system as well. Critics argue that the SRA process is opaque and prone to corruption, and that it often leaves vulnerable slum-dwellers at the mercy of unscrupulous developers.

    There is also concern about the long-term impact of slum redevelopment on Mumbai's housing market. While it may help to create demand in the short term, there are questions about whether the sheer scale of the city's slum problem can ever be fully tackled.

    Slum redevelopment is definitely contributing to Mumbai's real estate market in the short term, but we need to remember that this is a band-aid solution, says Dr. Ritu Dewan, an economist and Vice President of the Indian Society of Labour Economics. Ultimately, we need to look at more sustainable solutions to the housing crisis in our city.

    Despite these concerns, it's clear that slum redevelopment will continue to be an important factor in Mumbai's real estate market for the foreseeable future. Developers will likely continue to use the promise of access to valuable land as a lure for slum-dwellers, and buyers will continue to be attracted to areas that were once considered undesirable.

    As Mumbai continues to grow and change, the impact of slum redevelopment on the city's real estate market will be something to watch – for better or for worse.
